History

This site started circa 1998 when I first co-located a server on a shared T1. The box was a blazing fast 486/66 with 64mb of ram and a 1.0gb disk. I wanted to learn how to run services like mail servers, dns servers, web servers, etc. I soon realized that this box just wouldn’t cut it with the growing number of servers and users that I was hosting.

Sometime in early 2001 I built a newer box: it was a Pentium 3 850mhz with 512mb ram and a 20gb disk. Ah, room to breathe. I didn’t have to enforce a 30mb user quota anymore and everything seemed lightning fast.

Then in 2003 the server got another much-needed upgrade to an AthlonXP 2500+, 1.0gb ram, and an 80gb disk. I thought this would last at least a few years, but unfortunately the rack case I had assembled just couldn’t handle the heat.

In 2005, I broke down and ordered a Dell PowerEdge 750. It runs an Intel Pentium 4 2.8ghz proc, 1.0gb ram, and this time a SATA 80gb disk. So far I couldn’t be happier with this machine… here’s to hoping that I get more than two years out of it :)
