Tournament Club of Iowa

I got spanked by TCI, but not as hard as I was expecting. From what I heard about the course, they have some of the harder greens around and you really have to choose wisely which shots to play. I decided to get really agressive on the back, which explains my terrible score there. I lost a bunch of balls because I was trying to get fancy and instead of taking my free drops I was trying to prove a point to myself.

After playing the course, I can’t really see how they justify a $70 greens fee though. Sure, it is nice and the level of service is far beyond any other public course around here, but twice the rate for 18 holes is a little crazy. I played at a $39 off-season rate, which is about the only way I’d like to play the course again.

I shot a 76 there last Friday. Doesn’t sound that bad until you realize that I finished Bogey-Double Bogey-Double Bogey-Double Bogey on the last 4 holes. For you math majors, that’s 7 over on the last 4 to finish +4 or +5 (can’t remember what par was) for the day.

Nice course, I agree. Customer service is pretty good, but a bit excessive. If you want good customer service but don’t have some monkey clean your clubs after your round, try out the Legacy in Norwalk. Pretty sweet course. Or try the Harvester.

    You magnificent bastard.

Legacy is one of the courses I want to try this year. I also want to hit Harvester and Waveland… any thoughts on those courses? I’ve yet to play any of the three.

    Harvester is harder than TCI.

Waveland is easily the toughest municipal course I’ve ever played (city run). Its hilly as hell, so definitely get a cart.

Legacy is a great golf course. An added bonus is that the owners of it (The Manning’s) are great people. They used to own Beaver Creek (formerly known as Beaver Run) in Grimes. The Legacy is their latest venture. I think you’ll like it. Its pretty decent price-wise. Play on weekend afternoons. Most of the time, you can catch a deal after 2:00pm.

    And yes, I am magnificent.

    I really like TCI!

For the quality of the fairways, greens, level of service and the great restaurant, I don’t think it can be beat.

    That’s just a humble opinion.

Yes, the course “spanks” me every once in a while but I believe it makes me a better golfer.
