Glenn Beck

Tags: ,

I’ve been listening to the Glenn Beck Program on our local FM talk radio channel (98.3 WOW FM) for quite a while now and it has easily become my favorite talk show. He’s on from 10am-1pm so I usually catch 10-20 minutes while driving over lunch. He’s also on XM Radio channel 166 XM Radio channel 165 from 8am-11am (which I can’t pick up in the steel office building I work in unfortunately). The show mixes politics and humor, but usually with less politics and more humor.

Glenn just announced his new TV show is airing on Headline News on May 8th. I think this means that CNN will actually have something on worth watching. He’s played clips and has eluded to what the TV show will be like and it sounds like it will be pretty damn funny.

In other Glenn Beck news, the Mid-Life Crisis Tour has a scheduled stop in Des Moines on June 13th, with tickets going on sale May 8th. There really aren’t many details about the show, but from what I’ve heard about the Christmas show he does, it sounds like it’d be fun show to see.

T-Mobile and the Messaging & Security Feature Pack

Tags: , , , ,

Recently I’ve read about Orange offering the AKU2 update for their SPV C600 phone, which is similar to my SDA. So, I decided to email T-Mobile’s support team and ask if such an update is going to be available to the US customers. Here’s the response I got back:

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch with T-Mobile. My name is Adam and I will be happy to assist you today with your account concerns. I understand you contacted T-Mobile requesting information on the Messaging & Security Feature Pack for Windows Mobile 5.0. I look forward to providing you with World Class customer service today.

At this time these updates are created directly by Microsoft. They are currently working on bringing new features and updates to your Windows Mobile 5.0 device. The latest version due soon is the version required to get your email ‘pushed’ direct from the latest version of Exchange 2003. The AKU2.0 updates are currently being released in Germany and the new version will be available on all devices in the U.S sometime after April.

When these updates are available you should be contacted by T-Mobile. Please keep in mind you would also have the option of downloading these updates when they become available directly from Microsoft. For your convenience I have listed the link below to check for the latest updates.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/business/5/default.mspx

The updates now available are listed by device in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. I trust this information is of assistance to you. I thank you for your time and I hope you are having a great week.

The emphasis is mine - this is pretty exciting news. Saying “sometime after April” leaves the ETA for the update wide open, but I’m hoping this means Direct Push will be available very soon to T-Mobile USA customers.

Tournament Club of Iowa

I got spanked by TCI, but not as hard as I was expecting. From what I heard about the course, they have some of the harder greens around and you really have to choose wisely which shots to play. I decided to get really agressive on the back, which explains my terrible score there. I lost a bunch of balls because I was trying to get fancy and instead of taking my free drops I was trying to prove a point to myself.

After playing the course, I can’t really see how they justify a $70 greens fee though. Sure, it is nice and the level of service is far beyond any other public course around here, but twice the rate for 18 holes is a little crazy. I played at a $39 off-season rate, which is about the only way I’d like to play the course again.

Network Upgrade

Tags: ,

I just recently upgraded my home network.  First, I rebuilt the Linux box that does my firewalling, QoS, port forwarding, etc.  It was a very old install of Slackware (still running a v2.4 kernel).  It was the only non-Gentoo box that I have anywhere so I decided to spend some time and upgrade it.

Then this morning, I had Mediacom come out and upgrade me to their latest and greatest: Mediacom Max.  This is a 10mbit down/1mbit up service.  Apparently it is fairly new, as I had just recently read about it being available on dslreports forum.  The speeds are excellent, as this bandwidth test shows:

Mediacom Max

Google Calendar is Cool

Tags: ,

Google just released a new tool for the masses: Google Calendar. It looks like it’ll be pretty cool. It has built-in XML feeds as well as iCal feeds, so it should integrate nicely into client apps (specifically, working with iCal would be nice on my Powerbook). The web interface is very nice - much nicer than the Microsoft Exchange interface and the one for .Mac.

Wow, what is Apple thinking?

Tags:

I just read about Boot Camp and I don’t know what to think. After having a PowerBook for a couple years I can certainly understand why you’d want to run OS X on a PC, but Windows running on a Mac? Maybe a pseudo-emulator like Wine for OS X that would let you run most programs natively would make sense. But to allow you to install Windows XP and have it run natively on the machine?

I’m not surprised that such a thing is possible, just that Apple themselves would release the software necessary to do it. This move doesn’t seem like something Apple (especially with Jobs at the helm) would do, even with the idea that you could lure more switchers this way.
